Wildco Flag Sampler (Russian Peat Borer)(NR)

New from Wildlife Supply is our chambered-type corer (also known as the Russian Peat Borer) that collects samples which are not compressed or shortened during recovery, unlike samples taken with end-filling core samplers. You manually push it to any point in the sediment profile while it is in the closed position, with the blunt edge of the core tube turned against the cover flap to prevent sediments from entering the tube during penetration. Turn the handle 180° clockwise to start sampling. As the corer rotates, the sharp edge of the chamber cuts a sediment core around a stationary “flag”with the sample held in place by the cover plate. To retrieve, simply rotate the corer counterclockwise to extrude the undisturbed sample. Because the “flag” closes the half cylinder precisely, it is possible to take samples from very soft and flabby soils - in fact, it is possible to take samples from below the surface or ground water level. Borer contains: stainless steel corer head; stainless steel and PVC construction; two 61 cm (24") extension rods (for one-man operation from a boat); turning handle and carry case. Longer extension handles available, see right. The Flag Sampler is intended to take samples from reasonably coherent to coherent material, such as clay or loamy sand containing substantial undecayed material. Please note that, due to the massive cone, you may encounter substantial penetration resistance. In very soft yet fibrous soils, the sharp edge of the chamber may not sufficiently cut the fibers, resulting in possible sample loss or contamination with upper layers.
