Science First Deluxe Radioactivity Bundle w/ EP-20

• Get students engaged by measuring the radioactivity of Brazil nuts and various other foods and common materials that we encounter daily. • A high-tech and engaging way to explore atomic theory, nuclear reactions, half-life calculations, and units of measure. In this kit, students will perform various activities and controlled experiments themed around radioactivity. The Geiger detector is applied to determine whether Brazil nuts naturally emit radiation, and students relate nut size (mass, volume, density, perimeter and area) to radioactive properties and the half-life of potassium-40. Students estimate a human’s average exposure to radiation from Brazil nuts and bananas over the course of the year, and even create a radioactive “map” of the classroom. Students use the Millikan apparatus to verify the quantum nature of an electrical charge. The cloud chamber is used to investigate the effect of magnetism on observed particle tracks and the effects of shielding (i.e., with aluminum foil) on radioactive readings. Students perform a STEAM activity to create their own particle chamber. This kit includes a cloud chamber, Millikan apparatus, Geiger detector, and standardized radioactive sources. The bundle also includes the E/M apparatus.
